Explora Journeys Status Match: How to Join Explora Club at a Higher Level

Explora Journeys is the luxury ocean brand of MSC Group, MSC Cruises' parent company. Its small, all-suite ships compete with Regent, Seabourn, Silversea and Oceania. Its loyalty program, Explora Club, launched in April 2025. Like most new luxury programs, it has to persuade guests who have spent years building status with other lines to give it a try.

Its answer is a Status Match. If you hold elite status with an eligible luxury or premium cruise line, Explora will place you at a corresponding Explora Club level from your very first sailing. This guide covers who qualifies, how tiers convert, how to apply and the rules that matter.

Explora Club in brief

Explora Club has five levels, based on points:

Level Points
Classic 0
Silver 1–5,000
Gold 5,001–20,000
Platinum 20,001–50,000
Diamond 50,001+

How you earn points: Explora awards 100 points per night on board, multiplied by suite category:

  • Ocean Suites: 1x (100 points a night)
  • Ocean Penthouses: 2x (200 a night)
  • Ocean Residences: 3x (300 a night)
  • Owner's Residences: 10x (1,000 a night)

Explora also awards points for Destination Experiences and for eligible onboard spending, such as Ocean Wellness, specialty culinary experiences, beverages, laundry and boutique purchases.

Points validity: points stay valid for five years from your last disembarkation. If you don't sail again within that window, your points expire and you return to Classic.

What each level gets you (highlights)

Explora publishes the full benefit list. The headline features are:

  • Classic: a personalized welcome on board, member offers, early access to new Journey collections, and the Explora Club area on explorajourneys.com.
  • Silver and above: a 5% Explora Club savings on your next Journey.
  • Platinum and Diamond: Journey Experience Credits, including 100 for Ocean Wellness and 100 for Destination Experiences, among other benefits.
  • Diamond: a complimentary week-long Journey for two in an Ocean Suite, private transfer to the port, a complimentary suite upgrade (excluding the Owner's Residence) and an exclusive embarkation area.

Check the current benefits page before relying on any one perk. Explora's program is new and still changing.

Who can match

Explora's Status Match is open to members of 11 cruise brands, including Oceania Cruises (added in the program's second phase), Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Silversea, Seabourn, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Crystal, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Ponant, Scenic, SeaDream Yacht Club and MSC Cruises.

Explora says it maps each brand's tiers to Explora Club levels based on tier structure, rewards and price positioning. Each brand has its own row in Explora's official conversion table.

The MSC → Explora path

Many US readers will come to Explora through MSC Voyagers Club, its sister program. Explora's official status match document lists:

  • MSC Diamond (10,000+ points) → Explora Club Platinum
  • MSC Blue Diamond (25,000+ points) → Explora Club Platinum

Some third-party guides summarize the MSC row differently, for example putting MSC Gold at Explora Gold or treating only Blue Diamond as reaching Platinum. Explora's own conversion table is the authority, so check the current version before you apply.

The practical result is that an MSC Diamond member and an MSC Blue Diamond member reportedly land at the same Explora level, Platinum. For Explora matching purposes, the extra 15,000 MSC points needed for Blue Diamond buy nothing.

One step further: MSC's own status match accepts hotel status, and a Hilton Diamond, for example, is widely reported to match to MSC Diamond. That means a legitimate chain exists: hotel status → MSC Diamond → Explora Platinum. Each step is a one-time match, so think through the order before you start. See How to Stack Status Matches.

The rules that matter

From Explora's Status Match terms and FAQ:

  1. Once per lifetime. Each member can submit a Status Match request only once, before or after booking or sailing with Explora.
  2. Proof of current status is mandatory. You need a scan, photo or screenshot showing your current loyalty status with an eligible brand.
  3. Processing takes about 10 business days. Don't book a sailing that departs next week and count on the level being in place.
  4. You start at the floor of your matched level. Explora places you at the corresponding level and credits the minimum points for that level. A Platinum match, for example, starts you at the bottom of Platinum's 20,001–50,000 range.
  5. You get that level's benefits. Explora says matched members receive all the rewards associated with the level.
  6. The normal points-expiry rule still applies. Five years from your last disembarkation without a sailing, and you return to Classic.

We didn't find an explicit statement on whether Explora's top level, Diamond, can be reached by matching. Since the official MSC row tops out at Platinum, assume Diamond has to be earned through sailing unless Explora's table for your brand says otherwise.

How to apply

Explora lists three ways to request a match:

  1. During Explora Club enrollment. Choose the Status Match option when you sign up.
  2. Through My Explora. Use the Status Match section in the Explora Club area of your My Explora profile.
  3. Through Explora's "Contact Us" form on explorajourneys.com.

In each case, attach proof showing your full name, the program and your current tier.

Tips: - Use a recent screenshot from the source program's own app or website, not a booking confirmation. - Make sure the name on your Explora account matches the name on your source account. - If you've booked through a travel advisor, tell them about the match so the level shows on your reservation.

Is it worth doing?

Yes, if you're seriously considering Explora. Even Silver brings 5% savings on your next Journey. Platinum adds Journey Experience Credits. The match is free, and there's no challenge to complete.

But time it carefully. The match is once per lifetime, and you start at the bottom of your level. If you're close to a higher tier with your current line, or about to get a better source status, waiting could get you a better match. See When Is the Best Time to Status Match?.

Do the points math for Diamond. From the floor of Platinum (20,001 points), reaching Diamond (50,001) takes 30,000 more points. That's 300 nights in an Ocean Suite, 150 in an Ocean Penthouse, 100 in an Ocean Residence or 30 in an Owner's Residence, before counting points from spending. Most matched members will treat Platinum as their working level.

Common mistakes

  • Applying with expired status. Explora wants proof of current status.
  • Using the match before your best source status is in place. You only get one.
  • Assuming MSC Blue Diamond beats MSC Diamond. For Explora, both are listed at Platinum.
  • Booking a departure inside the 10-business-day processing window and expecting the level on board.
  • Forgetting the five-year points rule. If Explora is an occasional splurge, keep track of your last disembarkation date.

Confirmed vs. uncertain

Confirmed from Explora sources: five levels and their point ranges; 100 points per night with 1x/2x/3x/10x suite multipliers; five-year points validity; Silver and higher savings, Platinum and Diamond credits, and Diamond's headline benefits; 11 eligible cruise brands including MSC and Oceania; once-per-lifetime matching; mandatory proof of current status; about 10 business days to process; placement at the level's minimum points; three ways to apply; MSC Diamond and Blue Diamond both listed at Platinum in Explora's status match document.

Uncertain: whether any brand's tier matches to Explora Diamond; exact rows for each of the other 10 brands (check Explora's current conversion table); how third-party summaries of the MSC row compare with the latest official table.
