MSC Diamond vs. Blue Diamond: Benefits and How Each Tier Works

Blue Diamond is the highest tier in MSC Voyagers Club, and Diamond is one level below it. Diamond starts at 10,000 Voyagers Club points and Blue Diamond at 25,000. Diamond members get priority embarkation, onboard discounts, a members' party and a specialty dinner. Blue Diamond adds Yacht Club check-in, flexible arrival, "My Choice" dining, a meet and greet with the Captain or an officer, and priority disembarkation. Neither tier guarantees a cabin upgrade. Blue Diamond also can't be obtained through a status match, so it is earned only by sailing.

Benefits with restrictions

  • Cabin upgrades are never guaranteed. MSC says upgrade priority "is not guaranteed and applies only when there are free cabins available."
  • Late checkout depends on ship operations.
  • The shuttle ticket is only offered where a shuttle exists.
  • Gifts are limited per cabin and per cruise.
  • Guests under 18: MSC's benefits grid is marked as not applying to ages 0–17. If you're sailing with kids, don't expect tier perks to extend to them.
  • Currency and amounts: some published amounts are in euros. US sailings may differ.

How each tier is earned

Both tiers come from Voyagers Club points earned on MSC sailings. Diamond starts at 10,000 points, Blue Diamond at 25,000. MSC awards points per night based on cabin category, and the rates are in the Voyagers Club terms.

Status doesn't expire on a calendar basis. Your membership stays active as long as you complete at least one cruise every five years. If your last disembarkation was more than 60 months ago, your membership and status expire.

Can a status match give you Blue Diamond?

No. MSC wording that appears in search results for its Voyagers Club pages says the Blue Diamond tier "is excluded from Family and Friends rates, STAFF and Status Match applications." Third-party reports agree: LoyaltyLobby's November 7, 2024 article on the tier's launch, cruisemummy.co.uk's 2026 guide and awardwallet.com all say Blue Diamond is earned only by sailing, and that Diamond is the highest tier a match awards.

So if you're applying for a status match, Diamond is the realistic ceiling, and MSC still decides which tier you get. Blue Diamond takes 25,000 points earned on MSC cruises. For how the match works, see our MSC status match guide, and for status matching in general, What Is a Status Match?. If your current status is with Carnival, see Does MSC Match Carnival Status?, since reported Carnival outcomes have been below Diamond.

Diamond or Blue Diamond: what the difference means in practice

  • Diamond is the top tier you can reach without sailing to 25,000 points, either by earning 10,000 points or, if MSC approves it, through a status match. It covers priority boarding, onboard discounts and the members' events.
  • Blue Diamond's extras center on embarkation and disembarkation (Yacht Club check-in, flexible arrival, priority tender and disembarkation) and on more personal touches (My Choice dining, the Captain's meet and greet, the Thermal Area session).
  • Neither tier guarantees an upgrade. Don't book a cabin assuming you'll be moved up.

Getting MSC Diamond

Status Unlocked is a paid assistance service for the MSC Voyagers Club Diamond status match; it doesn't offer Blue Diamond. Our MSC listing costs a one-time $65, paid to Status Unlocked by PayPal or Venmo, and it's for MSC accounts that haven't been through a status match before. After you buy, we send instructions by message and you provide the account details they ask for. We never ask for your password. Our fee is separate from MSC's program, and MSC's public status match pages don't mention any charge for the match. Status Unlocked is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by MSC Cruises, and MSC decides which tier a match awards. For details, see our MSC Voyagers Club Diamond status match service.
