Does Hilton Match Hyatt Status?
Yes, with an important qualification. Hilton Honors runs a standing Status Match that accepts elite status from competing hotel programs, and World of Hyatt is one of the most common sources. But Hilton's match doesn't give you a Hilton tier "equivalent" to your Hyatt tier. It gives everyone the same thing: a 90-day Gold trial, which you can keep or upgrade to Diamond by staying a set number of nights.
A Hyatt Globalist and a Hyatt Explorist therefore start in the same place. What's different is how they should plan the 90 days. This guide covers eligibility, the challenge, timing and whether a reverse match exists.
How Hilton's Status Match works
From Hilton's help center:
- Who's eligible: Hilton Honors members currently at Base (Member) or Silver who haven't enrolled in a Status Match before. Gold and Diamond members can't use it.
- What you get: Gold for 90 days, starting when approved.
- To keep it:
- 6 nights within the 90 days → Gold
- 12 nights within the 90 days → Diamond
- How often: once per member.
- What you need: proof of current elite status with a competing hotel program, such as World of Hyatt.
Earned status from the challenge is reported to run through March 31 of the second year after you match. For a 2026 match, that's March 31, 2028. Check the date on your approval.
Hyatt → Hilton, by Hyatt tier
| Your Hyatt tier | Hilton starting point | Realistic goal |
|---|---|---|
| Discoverist | 90-day Gold | Keep Gold (6 nights) |
| Explorist | 90-day Gold | Keep Gold, or Diamond if you'll do 12 nights |
| Globalist | 90-day Gold | Diamond (12 nights) |
Some third-party guides describe "Diamond matches" for Globalists. Hilton's own help center describes one structure for everyone: Gold to start, with Diamond earned through nights. Some guides also describe longer challenges, such as 24–36 nights, that applied to earlier versions of Hilton's match or to targeted offers. Follow the terms on your own approval, not a blog's.
Is it worth it for a Hyatt loyalist?
Hyatt and Hilton have different strengths. Hyatt has a smaller footprint, and Globalist benefits at Hyatt are generous. Hilton has many more hotels, especially in US secondary cities, near highways and at airports. Many Hyatt loyalists match to Hilton for the nights when no Hyatt is nearby.
Worth matching if: - You'll have at least 6 Hilton nights within the next 90 days, or 12 for Diamond. - You often travel where Hyatt has no hotels. - You value Hilton Gold's or Diamond's food and beverage benefit and upgrades.
Wait if: - You have no Hilton stays planned. You get one match, and an unused 90-day trial wastes it. - You might soon hold Hilton Diamond another way, such as the Aspire card, which would make you ineligible for the match. Base and Silver only.
Timing your 90 days
Because the challenge depends on nights, timing is most of the strategy:
- Get your trips onto the calendar first. Request the match once you know where the 6 or 12 nights will come from.
- Count nights the way Hilton does. Check your approval terms for which stays count, such as whether award nights qualify. Earlier offers have differed.
- Book direct. Third-party bookings often don't earn elite credit.
- Watch the processing time. The trial starts on approval, and approvals can take days. Don't book an important stay expecting Gold before your account shows it.
Does Hyatt match Hilton status back?
Not with a standard public match. World of Hyatt doesn't run an open status match the way Hilton does. Hyatt has offered:
- Targeted or corporate challenges. For example, a 2026 challenge for employees of participating companies that starts at Explorist for 90 days, with nights required to keep or upgrade through February 2028, as reported.
- Case-by-case requests through Hyatt's guest services, as reported by travelers. These aren't guaranteed.
If you're a Hilton Diamond hoping to reach Hyatt status, the dependable routes are earning it, the World of Hyatt credit card's tier-qualifying nights, or a targeted challenge if you're offered one.
Step by step: matching Hyatt to Hilton
- Make sure your Hilton account is at Base or Silver, and that you've never used Hilton's match.
- Screenshot your World of Hyatt account showing your full name, tier and, ideally, your status expiration.
- Submit the request through Hilton's Status Match page from the help center.
- Watch for Hilton's approval, which sets your 90-day window.
- Book and complete your 6 or 12 nights in that window.
- Check your Hilton account after the window closes to make sure the earned tier posted.
Common mistakes
- Expecting Globalist to get Diamond straight away. It gets Gold to start. Diamond needs 12 nights.
- Matching with no stays planned.
- Matching after a card gives you Gold. Gold members aren't eligible. If you plan to get the Surpass card (Gold) or Aspire card (Diamond), decide on the order first.
- Booking through online travel agencies during the challenge.
- Confusing Diamond with Diamond Reserve. Hilton's match can lead to Diamond. Diamond Reserve, the tier above it since 2026, has to be earned.
What Hilton Gold and Diamond are worth to a Hyatt guest
Hyatt guests are used to specific benefits, such as Globalist breakfast and suite upgrades. Here's how the Hilton tiers you can reach through the match compare:
Hilton Gold (from the trial, or kept with 6 nights) - 80% points bonus - Daily food and beverage credit at many US properties, or continental breakfast, depending on brand and region - Space-available room upgrades (generally not suites) - Fifth night free on standard reward stays booked with points (a general member benefit)
Hilton Diamond (with 12 nights) - 100% points bonus - Executive lounge access where available - Daily food and beverage credit, or breakfast, varying by brand and region. At hotels where the executive lounge serves breakfast, Hilton says lounge breakfast replaces the credit. - Higher upgrade priority than Gold
What you won't get: Hilton's match doesn't include Diamond Reserve's confirmed suite upgrades or guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout. Those require earning Diamond Reserve.
Planning 12 nights in 90 days
For a Globalist who wants Hilton Diamond, 12 nights in 90 days is a solid plan:
- Two 4-night business trips plus two 2-night weekends in the same quarter.
- Use Hilton's more affordable brands (Hampton, Tru, Hilton Garden Inn) for the nights where you only need a bed, and save Hyatt for trips where Globalist benefits matter most.
- Book direct and check that each stay posts.
If 12 nights isn't realistic, target 6 nights to keep Gold. That's still worth having.
What Hilton asks for as proof
Hilton's status match needs proof of current elite status with a competitor. For World of Hyatt:
- A screenshot of your World of Hyatt account showing your full name, member number and tier.
- If you can, a screen showing the status expiration date.
- The same name as your Hilton Honors account.
Keep the screenshot uncropped and readable. Blurry or cropped images are a common reason for delays. Don't send passwords or full account statements with unrelated personal details. The tier screen is enough.
FAQ
Can I match from Hyatt if I already hold Hilton Gold through the Amex Platinum card? Hilton says the match is for Base or Silver members. Gold members aren't eligible.
Does Hyatt Globalist from a challenge count as proof? If your Hyatt account shows Globalist as current, it's the tier you hold. Hilton reviews the proof.
What happens if I don't complete the nights? The trial ends after 90 days and you go back to your previous tier. Hilton's match can't be used again.
Confirmed vs. uncertain
Confirmed (Hilton sources): the match's eligibility (Base or Silver only, once); the 90-day Gold trial; 6 nights for Gold and 12 nights for Diamond within 90 days; proof of competitor elite status required.
Reported: the March 31 end date for status earned through the challenge; Hyatt's 2026 corporate challenge terms; Hyatt's case-by-case handling of match requests.
