Complete Guide to MSC Diamond Benefits (and How to Use Each One)
MSC Voyagers Club Diamond is the tier most MSC regulars aim for. It's the level where the loyalty program starts to change your day on board instead of just showing a points balance in the app. But Diamond benefits come with qualifiers like "subject to availability," "cruises of four nights or longer," and "one per cabin." Guests who don't plan around those qualifiers often get home without having used half of what they had.
This guide covers every Diamond benefit MSC publishes, what each one actually gets you, and how to make sure you receive it. It also explains where Diamond sits now that MSC has added Blue Diamond above it.
Where Diamond sits in the Voyagers Club
Under the MSC Voyagers Club general conditions dated November 7, 2024, the program has six tiers:
| Tier | Points |
|---|---|
| Welcome | 0 |
| Classic | 1–2,199 |
| Silver | 2,200–4,299 |
| Gold | 4,300–9,999 |
| Diamond | 10,000–24,999 |
| Blue Diamond | 25,000+ |
Until late 2024, Diamond was the top tier. MSC then introduced Blue Diamond at 25,000 points. Diamond is now the second-highest tier. It is still the highest tier you can reach through MSC's status match program, because MSC says Blue Diamond can only be earned by sailing.
You earn points per cruise, based on the "experience" you book and how long the cruise is. MSC's general conditions list, for example, Bella at 200 / 500 / 700 points for cruises under 5 nights, 5–9 nights, and 10+ nights. Fantastica earns 400 / 700 / 1,000 and Aurea 600 / 1,000 / 1,500. Prepaid MSC packages and services added to your booking also earn 100 points for every $150 spent. Getting to 10,000 points by sailing alone takes many cruises, which is why Diamond carries real weight on board.
The Diamond benefits, one by one
MSC publishes a benefits matrix that shows which perks belong to which tier. Below are the Diamond benefits from that matrix and MSC's US Voyagers Club page, grouped by when you'll use them.
Before you sail
Member booking discount. All members from Classic up get a 5% Voyagers Club discount on eligible fares. This is not a Diamond-only perk, but it's the one with the most cash value. MSC also lists an extra 5% for eligible members who book more than 9 months ahead. Bookings made more than 12 months ahead also earn double points and $50 onboard credit per member for Silver and above.
How to use it: Book with your Voyagers Club number on the reservation from the start. If a travel agent books for you, give them the number and check that the discount appears on the invoice. It's much harder to get the discount added after final payment than to have it applied at the time of booking.
Priority line at the Contact Center. Diamond members get a dedicated or priority phone line for booking help.
How to use it: Save the Diamond number from your Voyagers Club account. Use it for changes like dining times, cabin swaps and package questions, where a shorter hold matters.
Embarkation day
Priority check-in and priority luggage drop. This is the benefit Diamond members notice first. You go to the priority check-in line, and in many ports a dedicated luggage drop, instead of the general queue.
How to use it: Make sure your Diamond tier shows on your boarding documents before sailing. Status that was applied recently, or that came through a status match, can take time to reach the ship's systems. If your eTicket shows the wrong tier, contact MSC before you get to the port. Staff at the terminal can only see what the system shows.
Cabin upgrade priority. MSC lists priority for a complimentary cabin upgrade, subject to availability. This is not a guaranteed upgrade. It means Diamond members rank higher when MSC hands out upgrades.
How to use it: Don't book a cabin you'd be unhappy in on the expectation of an upgrade. Upgrades happen most often on sailings that aren't full. If one is offered before sailing, read what you'd be moving into, including the experience level, location and any change to included packages, before you accept.
On board
Diamond party. On cruises of four nights or longer, Diamond members are invited to a dedicated Diamond event.
How to use it: Watch your cabin and the MSC for Me app for the invitation. It usually comes as a printed card. The event is also where you're most likely to meet the officers and guest services staff who can fix problems later in the cruise.
Specialty restaurant dinner. Diamond includes one specialty dining meal on cruises of four nights or longer. MSC's benefits pages call it a tasting menu.
How to use it: Book early in the cruise. Specialty restaurants fill up on sea days, and an unused benefit is worth nothing. Ask guest services how to book it, since the process varies by ship. Book it as the Diamond benefit, not as a regular paid reservation. If you're charged, ask for a correction before the final night, not after you disembark.
Sparkling wine and macarons. Diamond cabins receive a bottle of spumante and macarons, one per cabin per cruise.
How to use it: This should arrive on its own. If it hasn't appeared by the second evening, a polite call to guest services usually sorts it out.
Chocolate gift. MSC lists a chocolate gift on cruises of four nights or longer.
One free professional photo. Diamond includes one complimentary photo from the onboard photo team.
How to use it: Choose your photo on a formal night or at a destination backdrop, where the photos are better. Confirm at the photo desk that the benefit is applied before you pay for a package.
Pillow menu. Diamond members can choose from a pillow selection.
Priority line at guest services. Diamond members use a priority line at the guest services desk.
Onboard discounts. MSC's benefits chart lists discounts on laundry packages and the minibar for Silver and above, and a discount on spa, salon and fitness services for Diamond. Some secondary sources put the Diamond spa discount at 10%, but check the current chart because MSC adjusts these percentages.
Late cabin checkout. MSC's benefits material lists late cabin checkout for Diamond, depending on ship operations.
How to use it: Ask guest services the day before disembarkation. Late checkout depends on the ship's turnaround schedule, so don't plan on it if you have an early flight.
What Diamond does not include
Diamond is easy to oversell, so here are the limits:
- No included drinks package. Diamond does not include a beverage package.
- No free internet. The complimentary "Browse" internet package is listed as a Blue Diamond exclusive, not a Diamond perk.
- No Yacht Club access. Diamond is a loyalty tier. MSC Yacht Club is a cabin product you buy. Diamond members don't get into Yacht Club areas. Blue Diamond members can use the Yacht Club check-in area and baggage drop at some ports, but that is also not access to the Yacht Club itself.
- No guaranteed upgrade. The upgrade is priority, subject to availability.
- Not every benefit on every sailing. Several perks only apply to cruises of four nights or longer, and some depend on the ship or the port.
Diamond vs. Blue Diamond
MSC lists these as Blue Diamond exclusives, on top of the Diamond benefits:
- Flexible arrival time at the port
- Baggage drop-off at the MSC Yacht Club, and use of the Yacht Club check-in area (subject to port operations)
- Free shuttle bus ticket between the port and city centre, where available
- A "Behind the Scenes" tour on ships and routes that offer it
- A free "Browse" internet package
- My Choice Dining (flexible main-restaurant dining times)
- A meet-and-greet with the Captain or an officer, and priority tender access
Blue Diamond requires 25,000 points and can't be reached through a status match. Most travelers who hold Diamond through a match won't get there. Diamond is the realistic target.
Keeping Diamond: the activity rule
There's no requalification each year. Your tier is based on the points you've built up. What can end it is inactivity.
MSC's general conditions dated November 7, 2024 say membership expires if your last cruise disembarkation date is more than 60 months (five years) ago, or if you haven't cruised within five years of enrolling. When membership expires, your points are lost and you start again at the bottom.
Older MSC documents, including an earlier US version of the general conditions and MSC's US status-match FAQ, still give a 36-month (three-year) rule. The current general conditions say five years, but MSC hasn't removed the older wording everywhere. To be safe, sail at least once every three years, and check your expiry date in your Voyagers Club account rather than relying on any blog, including this one.
We could not find any "lifetime" Diamond tier in MSC's published terms. Diamond lasts as long as your account stays active.
A Diamond checklist for your next sailing
- Book with your Voyagers Club number and check that the 5% member discount appears.
- Check your eTicket shows Diamond at least a week before sailing.
- Use the priority check-in line at the terminal.
- Book the specialty dinner on day one or two.
- Watch for the Diamond party invitation (cruises of 4+ nights).
- Claim your free photo before buying a photo package.
- Ask about late checkout the day before you disembark.
- Check your onboard folio before the last night for wrong charges on benefits that should be complimentary.
- Note your account's expiry date and book your next cruise within the activity window.
Confirmed vs. uncertain
Confirmed from MSC sources: the six tiers and point bands; Blue Diamond can't be reached through a status match; the Diamond benefits listed above; the 5% member discount for Classic and above; points lost when membership lapses.
Uncertain or changing: whether the inactivity period is 36 or 60 months (MSC's documents disagree, and the current general conditions say 60); exact onboard discount percentages; whether a given benefit runs on a given ship or itinerary. MSC can change benefits, and the current benefits chart is the authority.
